CYA: Cultivating a Meaningful Culture of Assessment
Presenter: Nikki Childrose
Assessment leaders help shape how assessment is understood on their campuses. In this CYA session, Nikki Childrose will lead a conversation about how our language, priorities, and everyday practices send messages about the purpose and value of assessment. Participants will have an opportunity to reflect on their own campus practices and share ideas for building a more meaningful and collaborative culture of assessment.

Zoom-In: Understanding the New MSCHE Standards

This year’s Zoom-In will focus on the new MSCHE standards, including what has changed, the evidence institutions will be expected to provide, and questions campuses may encounter as they prepare to respond. The conversation will consider how the standards may be interpreted across SUNY’s different sectors and institutional contexts, with particular attention to documenting student learning and using assessment results for improvement.

CYA: Connecting Assessment, Accreditation, and Institutional Finance

This session will follow up on MSCHE reports and conversations related to institutional finances. Participants will explore how assessment and accreditation connect with budgeting and resource allocation, including how assessment evidence can inform institutional priorities and how assessment leaders can communicate the value and resource needs of this work during challenging financial times.

CYA: Engaging Adjunct and Temporary Faculty in Assessment

Adjunct and temporary faculty are central to student learning, yet they may have limited opportunities to participate in assessment planning and follow-through. This session will bring together practical perspectives on how campuses can clarify expectations, improve communication, recognize faculty expertise, and create realistic ways for adjunct and temporary faculty to contribute to assessment.

CYA: Supporting Assessment Professionals and Building Community

What are assessment professionals across SUNY reading, watching, and doing to support their work? Before the session, SCoA will invite participants to complete a brief survey about the resources, professional development, challenges, and practices that are most useful on their campuses. During the CYA, participants will reflect on the results, exchange ideas and successful approaches, and help identify priorities for strengthening SCoA’s professional community. Insights from this conversation will also help shape SCoA’s session at the 2027 ANNY Annual Conference.

SCoA will host a 45-minute concurrent session during the 2027 ANNY Annual Conference. The session will build on themes emerging from SCoA’s spring programming and create an opportunity for assessment professionals from across New York to exchange ideas, resources, and strategies in person. -
